Alternative dispute resolution requires of its leaders extensive experience, knowledge, and creativity in order to be successful.
Legion made every effort to recruit not only those with the virtues necessary to be successful at resolving disputes, but the absolute best and brightest of the legal community.
Brent Hatcher is not only respected by his peers as a Georgia Super Lawyer and past President of the Gainesville and Northeast Georgia Bar Association, Brent is revered for his intellect and his ability to translate the complex into the simple. Brent can “cut to the chase” and fully appreciate what will be required to reach a successful resolution.
EDUCATION
A native of Columbus, Georgia, Brent earned his J.D. with a cum laude distinction from the Mercer University School of law in 1999. Given his honors as a Law Review member and Editor, a Moot Court Board Member, and a member of the Brainerd Curie Honor Society, not surprisingly, Brent was selected to become an associate at one of Atlanta’s most prestigious law firms: Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy LLP (now Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner).
EXPERIENCE
Brent began his career in the firm’s business litigation and intellectual property litigation groups, representing both regional companies and national corporations in both state and federal courts. After the years of tiresomely fighting the traffic and crowds of big city life, Brent moved up to God’s country and joined the Gainesville firm of Smith, Gilliam, Williams & Miles in 2004 where he continues his practice to the present day.
Brent’s experience covers a wide array of cases and clients. Brent serves as corporate and litigation counsel for some of Georgia’s largest corporations and even international entities. Historically, Brent’s focus has remained on general civil litigation, commercial and business litigation, appellate litigation, and corporate transactions. Yet, Brent also assists individual folks and their families injured by the negligence of others. Literally, from the largest international corporations to the individual citizens of Northeast Georgia, Brent has seen it all in the past couple of decades. Legion is honored Brent seeks to serve its clients as well.
Not only has Brent been in the trenches of transactional and trial practices at the US District, Superior and State Court level throughout Georgia and other states, Brent has argued and briefed cases at the very highest appellate level, including the Eleventh Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
Appellate experience is important to the alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”) process. Often, the significance of a disputed question of law that must be decided by a trial court judge, and the likelihood that issue will be the subject of an appeal, can have a resounding effect on the overall ability to bring a case to conclusion.
Appellate issues (especially in post-judgment cases) are difficult to fully appreciate without the requisite skill and expertise of a seasoned appellate lawyer. Legion is so very pleased to be blessed with offering the services of an attorney capable of grasping how to navigate appellate issues to an ADR conclusion.
